Get to Know: Avocado Oil
What is Avocado Oil?
Apricot oil is extracted from the kernels (seeds) of apricots. The oil can be obtained from kernels using solvent extraction or a cold pressed method. We only ever use cold-pressed apricot oil because this ensures that the chemical compounds in the oil are not altered. It is very similar to sweet almond oil, but it is more suitable for sensitive skin and a great alternative.
Apricot kernel oil is well suited for skin care products because it is a mild, moisturizing oil, and is readily absorbed into the skin without leaving a residue behind. Apricot kernel oil makes a wonderful massage oil for babies and adults and is used extensively in aromatherapy. It is recommended for mature or sensitive skin.
Apricot Kernel Oil Benefits
According to some clinical studies and anecdotal evidence, applying apricot kernel oil to the skin may have the following benefits:
- Strengthens Skin. The oil’s natural linoleic acid (omega 6) content strengthens the skin’s barrier function and its oleic acid (omega 9) content softens skin and gives a satin-like feel.
- Softens Skin. Apricot oil is light and easily absorbed because it resembles the skin's naturally-produced oil sebum. It helps to improve skin tone, maintain softness and radiance of the skin. It also nourishes the skin and lowers the appearance of face wrinkles, fine lines and blemishes (that's the Vitamin C and E working in partnership).
- Prevents Signs of Aging. The antioxidant properties of rosehip oil help in preventing premature signs of aging, as it helps protect the skin from exposure to sunlight. The vitamin E in apricot kernel oil can help protect the collagen and elastin in the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in your face.
